Lubombo and Kruger Route Details

Route Description

Introduction

Lubombo Routes have been recently launched by the Ministers of Mozambique, South Africa and Swaziland. There are a few variations on this tourist route, but all follow a path through the 3 countries.

Detailed description

This route is generally known referred to as Lubombo Route 3 or The Ezulwini Valley Route.

For other variations on the route see Lubombo Route 1.

The Ezulwini Valley route takes travellers from the Kruger National Park through Barberton into the west of Swaziland. The road from Barberton (South Africa) to Swaziland enters at the Ngwenya or Oshoek border post and continues to Mbabane.

The Bulembu/Josefdal border post is another option to enter Swaziland - these roads lead to the scenic mountainous Highveld and forest region of Bulembu and Piggs Peak and through to Mbabane on tarred roads.

A variation of this route is to enter Swaziland at Matsamo/Jeppes Reef border post. Here the road leads to Bulembu or Peaks Peak and continues to Mbabane. The Ezulwini Valley, the valley of heaven, is Swaziland's major tourism area and is an ideal base from which to explore the Swazi Kingdom.

The route meanders down the Ezulwini Valley past Mliwane Nature Reserve to Manzini and onwards to the Lavumisa/Golela border post. From here the N2 passes the towns of Mkuze, Hluhluwe and Mtubatuba, with their respective roads leading to different sections of the Greater St Lucia Wetland Park and the Hluhluwe iMfolozi Park.
