Route Description
Introduction
The annual wildebeest migration normally moves through the Masai Mara National Park from July to September each year. This safari spends 2 nights on the banks of the Mara River and 2 nights in a private concession.
Detailed description
The best place to see the Great Annual Migration in August is in the Masai Mara. The wildebeest are usually crossing the Mara River around August, depending on weather conditions. This is one of the most dramatic months for the migration as the wildebeest and zebra cross the crocodile infested Mara and Talek Rivers. The migration moves back and forth across the Masai Mara and northern Serengeti.
The best safari during the season includes some time at or close to the Mara or Talek River and some time in one of the camps in the private ranches or concessions that surround the Masai Mara. This allows you to be very close to the action, but also allows you to get away from the crowds that inevitable track the migration. The private concessions also allow you to walk with Maasai warriors, something that cannot be done within the National Park.
One good option for a safari is to do 2 nights at Governor's Camp and then 2 nights at Porini Lions Camp.
